Yoga and Mindfulness

Yoga has been so helpful to me as a writer, a mom, a woman, and a human.

In The Little Book of Joy, I integrate parts of my experience with yoga to inspire readers to find a sense of playfulness, peace, comfort, and gratitude. In The Little Book of Words That Matter, I encourage readers to notice what’s happening in their bodies as a way to give them information about their thoughts and emotions.

Through a yoga practice, I’ve found community, positivity, lightness, and fun. I’ve also turned to yoga during times of stress – through pregnancy, postpartum depression and anxiety, and the pandemic.

In the spring of 2025, I became a certified yoga teacher through Bhakti Barn’s 200-Hour Teacher Training program in New Jersey! In addition, I’ve trained in Yoga and Mindfulness for Children with Little Flower Yoga based in NYC.

Yoga helps me feel more creative, emotionally calmer, mentally clearer, and physically stronger. Whether I write about yoga or guide people in person, I hope I can help others feel the same way.

Yoga for Writers through the Writers’ Circle beginning September 2025

Fall 2025: This class will explore how the physical, mental, and spiritual practices of yoga can enhance the writing creative process.

Writing involves expressing the internal. Yoga can help us go within to find more mental clarity, connect with our intuition, and work through perfectionism and over-thinking. it can encourage experimentation, exploration, curiosity, and play. On a physical level, a yoga practice can help us stretch, release tension, and strengthen our bodies after hours of sitting and hunching over our phones and computers every day.

EACH CLASS WILL INCLUDE:

  • Simple breathwork

  • A seated physical warm-up

  • Standing gentle movement incorporating tension release, stretching, and a variety of yoga positions/asanas

  • A short practice in stillness and quiet meditation

  • Discussion for working through mental, creative, and emotional blocks

Yoga experience is welcome but not required! We will be sitting on mats on the floor and doing some gentle seated and standing movement. Wear comfortable clothes and socks. Shoes are left in the waiting area as the studio classroom is shoe-free.
