A Selection of My Additional Writing for Kids
Building literacy skills + the love of learning
My experience ranges from writing board books to engage the youngest readers, to creating primary (preK-2) curriculum-based classroom materials that reinforce critical literacy skills, to writing Mad Libs activity books that encourage wild imaginations and supplement Language Arts learning.
Fun Fact: I wrote a Mad Libs story about an Easter Chinchilla!
Spotlighting diverse characters + growth mindset and critical thinking
I get to watch TV for work and then write books! I’ve written and edited early readers, 8x8 storybooks, activity books, chapter books, and junior novelizations. I’m drawn to projects that reflect and empower under-represented kids and communities.
Fun Fact: For these books, I use the pen name Gabrielle Reyes. I used this name many years before I even wrote for Gabby’s Dollhouse!
Supporting social + emotional wellbeing
I love working with Sesame Street in Communities (SSIC), a social impact arm of Sesame Workshop, that creates and distributes free storybooks and caregiver resources in English and Spanish.
These projects included:
Storybooks about building confidence, flexibility, persistence, and resilience
Editing online professional development courses for early childcare providers about school readiness and family engagement
Writing storybooks, social media materials, and messaging for Covid global response
Writing advisory reports on Healthy Eating, Digital Wellbeing, Infant and Toddler Trauma, and Racial Justice
Fun Fact: One of my favorite lines that I’ve ever written was for a maze featuring Grover. I called it: The Fast and the Furriest.
